Transcripts of letters, treatises, dialogues, etc., relating to the reigns of Elizabeth and James I. Includes R. Wingfield's letter to Burghley describing the execution of Mary, Queen of Scots, February 11, 1586/87, the letter from Thomas Alured to the marquis of Buckingham, 1621, Lambarde's Archion, an account of Sir Walter Raleigh's death and his speech from the scaffold, and a dialog between a Councilor and a justice of the peace attributed to Raleigh.

Soldier, courtier, author and antiquary, Sir Roger Twysden made his home at Royden Hall in the county of Kent, England. He collected Greek and Hebrew manuscripts as well as printed books. Upon his death, his collection passed to Sir John Sebright (1767-1846) of Beechwood Park, Hertfordshire, who sold the main portion at auction through Leigh and Sotheby on 6 April 1807. Mary, Queen of Scots (1542-1587), also known as Mary Stuart or Mary I of Scotland, was queen of Scotland from 1542 to 1567. Through her husband Francis II, King of France, she was also briefly queen consort of France (1559-1560).
