Soldier, courtier, author and antiquary, Sir Roger Twysden made his home at Royden Hall in the county of Kent, England. He collected Greek and Hebrew manuscripts as well as printed books. Upon his death, his collection passed to Sir John Sebright (1767-1846) of Beechwood Park, Hertfordshire, who sold the main portion at auction through Leigh and Sotheby on 6 April 1807. Mary, Queen of Scots (1542-1587), also known as Mary Stuart or Mary I of Scotland, was queen of Scotland from 1542 to 1567.
